Personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for between 1.5 and 2.5 hours per week in Kindergarten to Year 6.
PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
Students at New Lambton Public School actively participate in the eight areas of activities as set out in the PDHPE K-6 Syllabus.
Active lifestyle
Students participate in PE skills programs.
Dance
New Lambton has an active Dance program across the school. The students have the opportunities to participate in Grade dance activities and groups. The dance groups are part of the highly successful “StarStruck” display.
Games and sport
In Kindergarten to Year 2, skills are developed for participation in basic games and activities and recreational pastimes. Movement skills are applied in fun games and activities such as obstacle courses and ball games. All students have access to close by sporting facilities.
Growth and development / interpersonal relationships
Sequenced learning activities are provided through the PD lesson to educate each child about their age relevant personal development and ways to positively relate to others. “Interrelate” is offered to the older students as part of their PD sex education program.
Gymnastics
Gymnastics is offered to all students on a rotation basis, to all students Year 2 to Year 6.
Personal health choices / safe living
Mandatory, sequenced activities in Drug Education and Child Protection are provided to every child at NLPS.
