It is my pleasure to welcome you to New Lambton Public School. Founded in 1880, these grounds and buildings represent a long history of providing quality education in a caring environment. We know that the generations of students who have walked these hallways have shaped our community’s past and present; we are particularly conscious that it is our current students who will be shaping our future.
Our school leaders and classroom teachers understand that we play a vital role in ensuring students not only have a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy, but have access to opportunities that develop their creativity, critical thinking, interpersonal skills and sense of resilience, all essential elements to enhance wellbeing and facilitate lifelong learning.
Despite the enormity of this task, the depth of knowledge, skill level and dedication of our classroom teachers positions them well to rise to this challenge. Our classroom teachers are supported by a large school team which includes our school administration and support staff, our teacher librarian, a learning and support teacher, a new arrivals and English language proficiency teacher, a school counsellor and a number of school learning and support officers. Our current school executive team comprises a principal, two deputy principals and four assistant principals. Our school is also supported by an active and engaged P&C association and a strong community of parents and carers, all of whom share our goals and work with us in partnership to achieve them. Our school has a record of high academic achievement which is built upon positive student wellbeing and authentic community connections.
As such, our high expectations for student academic, social and emotional growth are balanced with play and regular physical activity. This includes off-site sports such as swimming, gymnastics and Ninja Parc (Years 2-6). Our students’ school life is also enriched by the provision of a number of extra-curricular activities, such as music tuition, debating, band, dance, drama, chess and competitive sporting teams.
Importantly, from Kindergarten onwards, student voice is strongly promoted through our student leadership team, Tell Them From Me surveys (Years 4-6) and numerous opportunities in class, across grades and within stages to contribute and suggest improvements. These are just some of the ways that our students can feel empowered to make a positive difference to their learning, the school environment and the broader community.
