Creative arts

Creative arts is mandatory for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In creative arts, students discover a variety of art forms through a study of dance, drama, music and visual arts where they learn to appreciate, compose, listen, make and perform.

Each art form has its own unique knowledge and skills, elements or concepts as well as a capacity to inspire and enrich lives.

Students at New Lambton Public School are involved in a dynamic Creative Arts curriculum from Kindergarten to Year 6.

In Visual Arts, students develop knowledge, skills and understanding in viewing and making artworks. They investigate different subject mater such as people, objects and places; use a variety of expressive forms such as painting, drawing and sculpture; and learn to consider the audience of their art work.

NLPS has a well-equipped Visual Arts Room where students in Years 2 to 6 come for their art lessons. In 2013, the Visual Arts Room was updated thanks to the school P & C Association. Students in Kindergarten and Year 1 have a specialised art area within their grade halls.

In Music, students develop knowledge, skills and understanding when listening to and performing music. By singing, playing and moving, they learn music of different styles and from different times and cultures. They also learn to organise sound into musical compositions using concepts such as pitch, duration and dynamics.

In Drama, students develop knowledge, skills and understanding in making drama. Students work collaboratively, taking on roles and creating imagined situations. Their performances are shaped by a variety of drama forms such as mime, improvisation, puppetry and storytelling.

In Dance, students develop knowledge, skills and understanding of dance. They will compose and perform their own dances using the elements and contexs of dance from different times and cultures.

At New Lambton Public School, students have the opportunity to be involved in many extra-curricular activities relating to Creative Arts.

They include

  • Star Struck - choir, dance, drama and puppets.

  • Specialised dance groups - ranging from a Kinder dance group, boys dance group and a dance group run by a specialised dance teacher.

  • Choir - Kindergarten, junior and senior choirs.

  • Drama/Art Workshops - students have opportunities to be selected for workshops and camps outside of school.
